As we prepare for the upcoming school year, we want to share an important update regarding your student’s science placement. Your student’s schedule has been adjusted to place them in Physical Science / ICP instead of Honors Biology / Biology. Our district is shifting the high school science sequence moving forward. Ninth graders will now take Physical Science / ICP, and 10th graders will take Honors Biology / Biology. We made this decision based on three main factors to help your student succeed:
Testing Relief: Biology concludes with a high-stakes state exam. Moving this class to 10th grade gives freshmen one less state test during their transition to high school. It also allows students to be a year older and more academically prepared when they take the exam.
State Alignment: The State of Ohio designs the Biology curriculum specifically for sophomore-level students. This shift aligns our high school with state expectations and neighboring districts. If a student transfers to or from our school mid-year, they will now be in the exact same class as their grade-level peers.
Academic Maturity: Biology contains abstract concepts that can be difficult for 9th graders to grasp. Waiting until 10th grade leverages your student's increased academic maturity, which historically leads to higher comprehension and better overall success rates. We are excited to welcome your student to high school and look forward to supporting them in Physical Science this year. If you have any questions or concerns about this schedule change, please reach out to us.
Thank you and enjoy your summer!

Your student’s Ohio State Testing scores are now live on PowerSchool Parent Portal for viewing at your convenience. You will still receive the traditional
testing results letter in the fall, which will contain more of a breakdown of your
student’s performance on this spring’s state tests.
For all of the tests, there are five (5) different performance levels
1) Limited
2) Basic

4) Accomplished
5) Advanced
For accountability purposes, “passing” includes the Proficient, Accomplished and Advanced levels for all tests except Algebra I and ELA II. The
competency score (“passing”) required for graduation on the Algebra I and ELA II exams is 684 or higher. On the next page are tables showing the scale score ranges for each test.
