We want to provide families with some Digital Wellness tips and strategies to consider during the winter break. These ten days are an opportunity to exhibit a healthy relationship with device use. Here is an exercise to try: Commit to a plan around having no phones or devices out as family from out-of-town are visiting or if you are visiting others. Explain that it’s an opportunity to connect with family and anything online can wait. Set an expectation for the entire family so parents/guardians can model a similar ability to know when it is appropriate to be on devices. Find other times during the weekend as your family moves from one activity to another to preemptively define if this is a time the family has devices out. By New Year's Day discuss questions with your children related to this activity, such as: Did you feel more present with your family? What was the most challenging part of the day for you? What was the first thing you did when you got your device out? Why is that specific thing important to you? Can you help our family create a plan to make this a more frequent practice?

CONGRATULATIONS to Junior Rylee McCreary and Senior Dalton Shock for being named the All-Heart Athletes of the Month for November. Both Rylee and Dalton were nominated and voted on by their peers and community for the many great characteristics they display on and off the field of play. These two give everything they have to their team and their school and exemplify all of the attributes that make them the All-Heart Athletes of the Month and an important part of Ram Nation. Here is a summary of what people had to say about Rylee and Dalton: Rylee shows great thoughtfulness, not just on the basketball court and soccer field, but in her everyday life. She is such a kind person to be around, and it’s just who she is! Whatever she’s doing, whether it’s in athletics, schoolwork, or band, she’s always giving everything she has into her activities. She exemplifies what it truly means to be an All-Heart athlete: Passion that comes from her heart; unforced enthusiasm in all she does. Rylee is a great selection for this award because she sets a great example for what Upper Sandusky is proud to represent: A student who relentlessly offers ALL she has ALL the time, and still encourages others while doing so! Dalton has exemplified unending hard work. He has patiently waited for bowling to make its debut at Upper Sandusky. Finally, for his senior year, he was fortunate enough to be able to showcase his bowling skills and everything he’s been working towards. Dalton is a positive role model to be around, and when things don’t go his way, he never allows it to dwell into the rest of his game. Even while being the Ram’s top bowler, Dalton is still improving to become even better for his team. He is a great senior leader for the bowlers, and he brings excitement to the team as well. The Rams are lucky to have Dalton on their first ever bowling team! Rylee and Dalton are also great students in the classroom. Both students have maintained great academic performances, proving their hard work isn’t just evident in their athletics. USHS staff has noticed this, nominating them because of their positive presence in the classroom. Congratulations to Rylee and Dalton for being selected by the community as November All-Heart Athletes of the Month! Thank you two for representing USHS in a positive manner, and doing it with all of your heart! We appreciate your boldness to show HEART in all that you do! RAM PRIDE!

ATTENTION: The third installment of the "All Heart Athlete of the Month" voting is now open to Ram Nation. The USHS Athletic Department is once again excited and proud to announce this very special recognition for our amazing student-athletes. The All-Heart Athlete of the Month is a great way to show some love and recognition for our student-athletes and what they do on and off the field of play. The way this will work is that every month, students at USHS will get the chance to nominate a student-athlete that they feel embodies all of the elements of the AHAOTM. Those elements include Hard work, Enthusiasm, Ambition, Responsibility, and Thoughtfulness. These elements are further described in the documents tab of our district website for your reference. Once the students have made their nominations, the field is narrowed down to the top three by vote of the staff at USHS. These top three male and female athletes are then sent to you, Ram Nation, for your vote. You can vote for one male and female student-athletes using the Google Form attached to this post. The final tally will result in who is crowned the All-Heart Athlete of the Month. If you have any questions about this process please contact the USHS Athletic Department and we will be happy to assist you. The voting will end on Wednesday, December 4th at midnight so please get your votes in by that deadline. Thanks in advance for your participation in this special recognition.
