Dear USEVS Families,
On Wednesday 1/7/25, the district was notified by PowerSchool, the platform that houses our student information, about a national data breach that took place on December 22nd. During this data breach, student and staff data was accessed. PowerSchool began an immediate investigation and has been provided reasonable assurance that the data was destroyed and not shared.
While the investigation is ongoing, here is what we currently know:
The compromised data includes two sets of information, one related to teachers and one to students. Most of this data involves demographic information such as names, addresses, emails, and phone numbers.
It’s important to note that while some accessed fields could potentially contain sensitive information (e.g., Social Security Numbers), our district does not typically store sensitive data in these fields.
This breach did not occur as a result of any actions by our district. It was accessed through a PowerSchool support account and was not due to a failure in our local data protection measures.
It’s also important to note that no other data, such as grades or course information, was compromised in this incident.
Next Steps:
The district will conduct a thorough internal audit to understand what data, if any, was affected. We have already started to review the data that was potentially impacted, and will share appropriate information as we are able.
Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work through this situation. I will keep you informed as we learn more and provide any updates regarding additional steps or recommended actions.
We expect further guidance from PowerSchool (including a Frequently Asked Questions document), as they continue their investigation into this breach. As soon as we receive any updates we will be certain to pass them along to our community.

USHS/USMS ATHLETIC UPDATE
Due to Wynford closing school today, all USHS/USMS athletic events have been cancelled for today. This includes:
- JH Girls Basketball @ Wynford
- JH Boys Basketball v. Wynford
- JV/Varsity Bowling v. Wynford
Reschedule dates for all of these events are being discussed and will be shared once determined.

Friendly Reminder About Lost Items
We know how easy it is for items like water bottles, lunch boxes, and other goodies to get misplaced at school. These things can add up quickly, both in cost and frustration! To help keep track of your child’s belongings, here are a few tips:
1️⃣ Label Everything: Use a permanent marker or fun name labels for water bottles, lunch boxes, and anything else that tends to wander. A clear name and grade can work wonders!
2️⃣ Check the Lost & Found Regularly: Encourage your child to take a quick peek in the Lost & Found if something goes missing. We often have treasures waiting to be claimed!
3️⃣ Choose Distinctive Designs: Unique colors or patterns make items easier to spot—and less likely to get mixed up.
4️⃣ Practice Responsibility: Remind kids to double-check they have everything before they leave class, lunch, or the playground. A quick “grab and go” checklist can be a big help!
Thank you for helping us teach our students about responsibility while keeping those special items safe. Together, we can minimize the mystery of the disappearing water bottles!
💡 If your child has lost something, please reach out or encourage them to check the Lost & Found—we’d love to reunite them with their belongings!
